Dorothy Rush's Story

Life I have traveled many different roads these past thirty years. But I must add, that it has all made me a better person. I left college, an unfocused young woman confused about life.. that has certainly changed. I always seek to give back what was so freely given to me... College I attended ACCC (previously known as Atlantic Community College) from 1971-1973, and graduated with an A.S. in Medical Technology, which is a fancy way of describing a lab technician. Later in 1993 I returned to school to do a career change. I went to Atlantic Vocation School for practical nursing.(thanks to the unemployment office) And now I am back again at ACCC for the registered nursing program. My goal is to continue on to Stockton College in Pomona. Workplace I have worked in the healthcare field for almost thirty years now. The first part of my career, I was a lab technician. I worked in many different aspects of it; hospital, private labs, and the American Red Cross. The Red Cross was the most diverse aspect that I worked in, I h...Expand for more
elped to do research on testing methods for HIV. The last nine years I have worked as an LPN at several different nursing homes, private agencies and a local drug rehab. I finally decided to return to school to continue on to become a registered nurse and that is were I am now. I should be finished next year. And hopefully God willing, I will continue from there. My goal is to at least reach graduate school and get my masters in counseling. Military My tour in the military was just like any regular job. I was in the first WAC detachment for basic training in South Carolina. After I went to my permanent party (I skipped the school portion because I had an A.S. degree from ACC) I went directly to work. So it provided me with the work experience that I needed. I went into the military because there was not any employment available in the field that I studied for, Medical Technology. I became a mature adult as a result of it. But I still did not develop the social skills I needed. That was not something that could be taught.
